Pearson BTEC Level 1/Level 2 Tech Award in Sport, Activity and Fitness.

BTEC Sport enables students to learn about physical education in a vocational context. The course is primarily based on course work as a means of assessment. Practical performance and/or ability isn't as crucial in comparison to GCSE PE.

What is the Course?

BTEC Tech Award in Sport is a work-related course enabling students to study sport and physical education to achieve a 1-GCSE equivalent qualification. A wide variety of sporting issues and concepts are covered in a range of contexts, incorporating both theory and practical elements. All coursework is carried out in test conditions where re-takes are not allowed, however a vast amount of support is given prior to this point.

What will I learn?

Students will cover a range of units including:

Component 1: Understanding the body and the supporting technology for sport and activity

Component 2: The principles of training, nutrition and psychology for sport and activity

Component 3: Applying the principles of sport and activity

How will I be assessed?

60% of the course is assessed through coursework. Each assignment is achieved through a work-related context where the students take on different roles in a variety of sporting situations.

There will be one externally assessed unit where students apply knowledge and understanding to plan a fitness-training programme and recommend nutritional guidance for participants to improve fitness and performance.

When will I be assessed?

Assessment is ongoing throughout the three year course.

Additional Information

Pupils who chose this option must have a passion for PE and sport. Commitment to work is essential on this course in order to ensure all assignments are completed within the deadlines set. They must also have a proven track record of excellent kit, determination and effort in PE lessons. Leadership and ICT skills are also important in order to progress through the course.

What will this qualification allow me to do?

The course is suited to those pupils wishing to continue studying further qualifications such as Level 3 BTEC in Sport or enter employment in the sport and active leisure sector.
